Hermann Max Pechstein

Hermann Max Pechstein (1881–1955) was a member of the art movement “The Bridge” and an exceptional exponent of Germany’s first generation of expressionists. He and his Dresden-based “Bridge” colleagues, including the likes of Ernst Ludwig Kirchern and Otto Müller, turned the prevalent image of the art world on its head with wild brush styles and everyday scenes.

The artist’s wild style can be best experienced in his graphic work. His etchings evidence the quick process in which his works were produced and feature a vivid dynamic of their own through the paint infused deep into the paper.
