Claes Oldenburg

Claes Oldenburg's (*1929, Stockholm - 2022, New York City) monumental sculptures can be found all over the world. He has exhibited internationally, including at the 1964 Venice Biennale, and is represented in prestigious collections. For example, in the Guggenheim Museum in New York or in the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt. As a sculptor, Oldenburg turned away from a more classical way of creating sculptures and designed whimsical, gigantic versions of everyday objects: for example, he created an ice cream, a golf ball or a garden hose in XXL format as a sculptural work in public space.

Oldenburg does not allow himself to be restricted in his paintings either, and makes reference to well-known icons and myths, playing with precisely those in the realm of the bizarre.

Auch in seinen Bildern lässt sich Oldenburg nicht einschränken und nimmt Bezug auf bekannte Ikonen und Mythen und spielt mit eben jenen mit dem Bereich der Skurrilität.
