Karel Appel
In the works of Dutch artist Karel Appel, it is impossible to determine whether abstraction or figuration predominates. His prints and limited editions also show this tense ambiguity.
Karel Appel was a co-founder of the legendary, transnational artist group Cobra
(1948-51). This group also included Pierre Alechinsky, Corneille, and Asger Jorn.
"One should look at a thing as a whole and not get lost in details." - Karel Appel
