About Verletzungen-Verbindungen
Connections and Reconciliation
The picture shows nail motifs in deep black. They lie over a layer of impulsively smudged, abstract fingerprints of the artist in dark grey. The pictorial elements are densely interwoven, creating a complex structure.
The title of the work, ‘Injuries-Connections’, creates ambiguity and brings together seemingly contradictory elements. This is precisely what the work aims to achieve. It points to the connections between topics that initially appear to be contrary. Thus, we see hardness in the form of the nails and suppleness in the form of the dynamic smearing of the fingers.
‘Injuries-Connections’ visualises the complexity of suffering and healing. The work is dedicated to a central theme in Günther Uecker's work: the emphasis on connection instead of separation and the possibility of reconciliation.
