About Jörn Stoya
Vita of the artist Jörn Stoya (*1957, Lüneburg) lives and works in Düsseldorf. From 1978-84 he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Gotthard Graubner , among others. His works are represented in renowned private and public collections, including the Kunstpalast/ Düsseldorf, Museum Morsbroich/ Leverkusen, the E.ON Collection/ Essen and the Bundeskunstsammlung/ Bonn. Jörn Stoya's production process Jörn Stoya does not work with oil or acrylic paint, but with pure pigments. This means that he does not need any binding agents. The colours are always unmixed. The artist places the pictures on a table and applies the pigments or colour dust to the paper by hand, rubbing it in, layering and smudging it. The pictures are created without sketches or drawing in lines in the process, inspired by colour after colour. Jörn Stoya only finishes a work when the overall tone is harmonious. Colour and colourfulness of the works The artist frees colour completely from the representational and instead uses his works to address questions about the effect and power of colour. With Jörn Stoya, colour can be experienced almost physically. Sometimes the colours are composed close together, sometimes they merge into one another.
