Jürgen Mayer H.’s sculptures, produced using 3D printing, are perhaps the most contemporary segment of our gallery program. The artist and renowned architect translates his headstrong facade designs—to be found in Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Seville—into sculptures. “Everything is in motion and everything affects everything else. Ideas are added and then shaped, reshaped [...]. I don’t consider questions about measurements or genre to be too important.” – Mayer H. The facades of his realized buildings, mostly two-dimensional in their outline, are given a three-dimensional space in Mayer H.’s sculptures, in which his playful-looking facades fan out and connect to organic structures. The sculptures’ organic design vocabulary forms a contrast to the inorganic material that the sculptures are made from. In his sculptures, just as in his facade designs, Jürgen Mayer H. questions the relationship between inside and outside, enclosed and open space. The sculptures present entirely transparent parts as well as a stocky structure with an almost impervious thickness. Here the amorphous arcades open up a visual axis for the observer into the interior, while simultaneously refusing the inner space with their thickness.
