Joan Miró (1893–1983) äußerte einst, die Malerei ermorden zu wollen; das Schicksal oder vielmehr sein Talent machte ihn schließlich zu einem der wichtigsten Künstler des 20. Jahrhunderts. Berühmt geworden ist er für seine spezifische künstlerische Weise, zwischen Gegenständlichkeit und Abstraktion zu schwanken.
Mirós Bildsprache ist unverwechselbar – so auch in dem Werk »Crapaud Lyre«. Es ist eine Radierung des Künstlers aus dem Jahr 1965; in dem großen Format sind solch frühe Arbeiten eine Seltenheit! Was wir sehen, ist nicht eindeutig; ist es ein Frosch, eine menschliche Figurendarstellung, ein abstraktes Wesen? Es bleibt offen. Es scheint, als schaue dieses heitere Wesen den Betrachter neugierig mit großen Augen an. Die Darstellung ist reduziert auf elementare Linien und sanfte pastellige Farbkreise – es ist ein zartes Bild, das Heiterkeit und Leichtigkeit versprüht.
